Question: You define the emptiness of nirvana as relative emptiness, and the emptiness of - let’s say turiya - as absolute emptiness, referring to background consciousness?

Marijs: Yes, somebody who is in nirvana can go to sleep and lose consciousness. Somebody who is in turiya - as long as he is in turiya - will be awake 24 hours a day, and this can last for days.

Question: The different levels of bhava samadhi can be shown as different auric fields, if I can put it like that. Is the ability to see those auric fields part of a level in Bhava Samadhi, or is it something different? Are these two the same thing? Is seeing the auras the same thing as Bhava Samadhi?

Marijs: No. There are, for example, ordinary auras that relate to the emotions, and you also have an aura field which relates to concrete thinking. So there are different types of auras which all humans have. What is different with bhava samadhi is that aura fields of a higher level are generated, so this is energy which goes beyond the psychic level. They are aura fields in that they are concentrations of subtle energies of this level.

So if you have bhava samadhi on a low subtle level then there is a concentration of subtle energies on a low subtle level. If you have bhava samadhi on a high subtle level you have a concentration of subtle energies on a high subtle level. And if you have a bhava samadhi of a low causal level you have concentrations of subtle energies on  a low causal level.

So you could say that bhava samadhi is directly related to the development of these aura fields on this level in a one-to-one correspondence.

The seeing of aura fields is however something different. Normally speaking, if one has a lot of experiences in this form of bhava samadhi, then you do see light energies. If we talk about the typology of mysticism, then one of the characteristics of bhava samadhi is the ability to see a non-physical light during this experience. So we find in the literature that there is some kind of connection, but this doesn’t mean that every mystic sees auras, and it doesn’t mean that everyone who can see auras is a mystic.

However, if you have a group of mystics... if you take one hundred mystics, more of them will be able to see these kind of energies, than if you take a hundred stock brokers. And you can even develop this kind of seeing by training, by certain kinds of visual concentration.
